Chris Monahan is a career aviator who has been passionate about aviation from an early age. After university he attended pilot training with the U.S. Air Force and flew a wide range of aircraft during his career. In the USAF, he began as a Forward Air Controller in the OV-10 and then transitioned to the F-15C as an instructor and evaluator. He was then selected to be an Operational Test and Evaluation pilot for the latter part of his career. He has flown the F-15, F-16, B-1, B-52, AWACS, KC-135, King Air 350 and nearly 20 other aircraft in operational, test and international efforts. Additionally, he was a core pilot for the initial F-22 and F-35 test and development.
In the test environment he was charged with delivering new aircraft, airworthiness, flight test, weapons testing, simulator design and validation of tactics utilising these new technologies. He also acquired an MBA and a Masters in Aeronautical Science as well.
Most recently Chris served as a diplomatic representative to Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Azerbaijan and provided support to host and allied nations on a variety of issues. Additionally, he was the Chief Pilot for the US King Air operations in East Africa.
In 2016 Chris joined the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and is currently the Executive Manager for National Operations and Standards. In this role he has oversight of CASA’s primary regulatory efforts which include development of Regulations, Manuals of Standards and Guidance Material across the full spectrum of operations. National Operations and Standards also provides policy guidance and oversight for RPT, Charter, General Aviation, RPAS and Flight Standards.
