Dr John Dawson leads the Positioning Section at Geoscience Australia (GA). John is responsible for the Australian Government’s National Positioning Infrastructure which includes the development of a Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) that will improve the performance of GPS in Australia. John is a satellite geodesist and was involved in some of the earliest measurements of glacial motion in Antarctica using GPS. His PhD research, undertaken at the Australian National University, was the first to observe and characterise Australian earthquakes from space using satellite interferometry.
